Text-Blocking Apps

I chose this video by the New York Times because I like the irony presented about text-messaging. I think it's funny that while the person that is talking about this applications for smartphones that would block your cellphone from texting while in motion, he is doing other things that are equally distracting to the driver. Even though this application for blocking the cellphone while driving is a magnificent idea, I believe that drivers are always gonna get distracted by something else whether it is text messaging, cutting your nails, changing the music, or putting make-up. Text messaging certainly have become a problem for drivers because of the increasing number of accidents happening related to this.

Android Edges Apple iPad as Second-Most-Popular Mobile Development Platform:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/11/04/android_edges_apple_ipad_as_second_most_popular_mobile_development_platform.html

The link above will take you to an article discussing Android and Apple mobile media technology. According to a new study, it seems that Android is now the second most popular mobile media development platform while Apple’s iPod is still at the top. Google’s android platform has slightly taken over Apple’s iPad in terms of “total developer support for mobile devices. However, Apple’s iPhone is still the most popular software destination for users. This study has found that 30% of developers are creating content for the iPhone, 23% of developers are creating content for Andriod and 21% of developers are creating content for the iPhone. The rest of the percentages can be found on a chart featured in the article. In a “State of the Apps Industry” report mentioned in the article, they included the percentages of developers that are supporting certain platforms. They found that in 2011, 29% of developers say that they will embrace Google’s mobile operating system, 20% said that they will continue to develop technologies for the iPad and another 20% said they would create software for Windows Phone 7. There is also a small percentage of developers that will start to work on technologies for the iPhone in 2011. I found this article interesting because with all the advances we have in technology, it seems that everyone is trying to not only create their own mobile media device but also trying to the dominant mobile media player. There might be a point in which one form of mobile media will become dominant while the others fade away or there will just be a surplus of varieties to choose from. All we can do is choose the one or ones that we like and see what to the others.

Facebook Offers Local Deals for Mobile Users

According to an article on NYtimes.com, Facebook has now introduced a feature that will enable coupons and special deals through the use of Facebook’s mobile application. Because of the competition that advertising companies are facing because of the growing trend of Social Networks, this will allow business to advertise their offerings over Facebook.
A downfall? The application as of now will only be available through the iPhone Facebook app.
Founder and C.E.O. of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg states that, “200 million people were now using Facebook through its mobile application, a threefold increase since last year.” Looks like the best way to market your company or brand these days is through social media and mobile media working together.
